Oding in the overcast and rain at Roper Lake

After Eagle Creek, Caleb Strand and I ventured further south to Roper Lake State Park to search for more odes.  This location is an epic one, and is legendary by oding terms.  Roper Lake has a huge and healthy population of the attractive Four-spotted Pennant.  Caleb and I certainly got our fill of them for the first time.  Right when we got to Roper Lake, it started raining and pouring for over forty minutes, and wind speeds were very high during the storm.  Yeah yeah, the monsoons are upon us!  Here are a few pictures of a few of the numerous Four-spotted Pennants that were present throughout Roper Lake.

More fun was added to Roper Lake and it's rainy weather when Caleb spied a new ode for me, my first ever Spreadwing species.  This is a female Plateau Spreadwing!  It is one of Arizona's most widely distributed spreadwings, and I was glad to finally get a species from this awesome group.

I returned the favor to Caleb by detecting his first ever Pacific Forktail.

Another ode present and photographed was this Blue-eyed Darner.

If it wasn't overcast and rainy and if it would've been sunny, Caleb and I would have had much more at the awesome Roper Lake.  But that's the way it goes!  Our trip came to a close after Roper and we had a long long drive back to Phoenix.  I got 9 ode lifers on the trip and Caleb got 5.  What a great time.  Thanks a ton Caleb for a great trip!
